Commercial Skip Size Guide | Speedy Skips Blog
Not sure what size skip you need for your project? At Speedy Skips, we offer a range of different-sized skips for a range of different needs. In this skip size guide, we’ll help you decide which is the perfect choice for you.
A Skip for Every Project
- Mini Skip (2-3 yard): If you’re looking for a skip to get rid of general household items or garden waste, then a mini skip is the perfect-sized skip for you. Ideal for those general home clear-outs and garden work.
- 4 Yard Skip (Midi): A 4 yard skip could be the choice if you’re doing some small renovations or some DIY projects. A Midi skip will be plenty of space for all the waste that you might have.
- 6 Yard Skip: A 6 yard skip could be the right option for you if you’re taking on some larger house renovations like a kitchen or bathroom fitting. You’ll need a skip big enough for all the old units, and the 6 yard skip is perfect for that.
- 8 Yard Skip: Extensions or larger-scale renovations will likely require more space for waste. An 8 yard skip will give you plenty of room for all your needs. This is also the perfect size if you’re taking on some substantial landscaping projects.
- 12 Yard Skip: Ideal option for larger commercial waste, such as an office renovation. This skip will be large enough for old furniture or desks that are no longer required.
- 14 Yard Skip: Our largest option, and the perfect choice for those significant commercial projects that require the extra space for all the waste that might be gathered. You can fit roughly 140 full black bin bags into our 14 yard skip!
If you find yourself needing something larger, get in touch with the team today. We have a selection of Roll-On-Roll-Off skips that might be exactly what you need.

Still Unsure? Use this Quick Skip Size Guide Checklist…
Before booking, think about the project you are doing and the amount of waste you might potentially end up with. Heavy materials such as soil, concrete, bricks and rubble can fill a skip quickly by weight, while lighter bulky items such as furniture, timber and packaging take up more space.
A 2-4 yard skip is usually best for a smaller clear-out, garden tidy-up or minor DIY project. A 6 yard skip is a popular choice for kitchen or bathroom refurbishments, while an 8 yard skip offers extra room for larger renovations, extensions and landscaping work. For office clearances or substantial commercial projects, a 12 or 14 yard skip may be the best option.
If you are between two sizes, we usually recommend choosing the next size up. It can be more cost-effective than needing a second skip later, but remember that all waste must remain below the skip’s fill line.

FAQ’s
What size skip do I need for a house clearance?
For a small room clear-out, a 2-3 yard skip is normally ideal. If you are clearing out an entire house, then you could look at a 6-8 yard skip, depending on the number of rooms.
How do I know if a skip will fit on my drive?
Check the available dimensions, and ensure there is enough space for clear access for your skip to be delivered.
Should I choose a larger skip if I’m unsure of the size?
It would usually be more cost-effective to size up, rather than ordering a second skip down the line if you do run out of space. However, make sure you don’t hire a skip that’s too large for the amount of space that’s available.
What happens if I choose the wrong skip size?
If you choose the wrong skip size, you might have to arrange an additional collection, or hire an extra skip, to ensure you have the right amount of space you require. To avoid this problem, feel free to get in touch with our team, who are on hand to help you choose the right commercial skip.
